Crochet Rag Rug

I made this rug out of some of our old t-shirts. I'm going to try a heart one next. My neighbor wants me to make her one out of some sentimental clothes she's been saving for years but she wants a heart.

Michael's Birthday

My son turned 15 yesterday! Michael requested a Key Lime Pie made from the limes on our lime tree so my husband made it for him. He opened his presents and dad took him to Harbor Freight tools where he came out grinning from ear to ear with his loot. Then he opened his presents. He got his frist drill and a cool screw driver set just like his dad's. Of course, he got all the pens he's been wanting. He loves pens! (He draws a lot). Then, last night we took him to Red Lobster for dinner where he got to order whatever he wanted on the menu.

Making Pickles and Camping in the backyard

The kids decided they wanted to "camp" in the backyard yesterday and they actually slept out there all night in their tents. It has turned into a weekend adventure! Alison has been cooking on the fire pit all day starting with breakfast this morning! She made eggs in the iron skillet and toast. For lunch she made grilled ham and cheese sandwiches over the fire. Tonight Michael and Alison cooked chicken quesadillas for all of us all by themselves. They were great...I couldn't have done better myself!

Now Jeff and I have been working on our own project today...we're making pickles! HA! Never done this before so I'll let you know how it goes.

Our little birdie is still making himself at home around our backyard. Last night he flew up and landed on my computer while I was sitting out on the back porch! He slept in my hanging plant last night and it seems like a nice safe spot for him to perch.

Miracle in my backyard

The most amazing thing happened to us today. My husband was just sitting at the table on on the deck today when a little bird flew right up and landed on the table right next to him and started screaming at him and holding his mouth open like he wanted to be fed. He quickly sent Michael to dig some worms. This little bird was hungry! He seems to think my husband is is mama! We fed him and he flew a short distance away to the fence. We left the house for several hours then came back and he came back again screaming for food! We fed him more worms. He won't pick them up from the table himself. He holds his mouth open real wide and we drop them in. He flew away and landed in a tree. He started crying again and he seemed to be stuck. Jeff went over and when he saw him, he came to him. It's the most amazing thing I've ever seen!

Camping trip

I'm not doing a very good job of keeping this blog updated.

We just got back from a week long camping trip to Martin Dies, Jr. State Park. We had a really good time and it was so nice to get away in the RV after such a long time. We stayed pretty close to home since the gas prices are so high and my husband is out of a job right now. This wouldn't have been my first choice of where to camp. We swam, fished, rented a canoe for the day, and walked on trails. This lake has alligators so looking at the alligators was fun. We did have one scary event happen while we were there. A tree literally broke in half and fell in the road about 25 feet in front of where my husband and daughter were walking. It hit a power line and snapped the power line which fell right behind them. The grounds were out of power for about 5 hours. It shook Alison up pretty bad and she was trembling for about 20 minutes. Thank you, Jesus, for protecting my family.

They had a little bike decorating contest and then the kids did a bike parade on July 4th. They had various other games like a watermelon seed spitting contest, hoola hoops, bean bags toss, etc.

I have still been working on the filet name doily. I finished my letters and had started on the decorative part. I don't like it though and I don't know if I'm going to finish it. I may frog the decorative border, put some type of trim on it and leave it at that. It's hard for me to stay motivated on a project that I'm not happy with but I hate to rip all that out too! It will need to be blocked, obviously.

I made this little doily. I started that yesterday and finished it tonight.

It could almost be used as a coaster. I'm going to make another one to match for my dresser. I love doilies but I have only made two others before this because I don't really like working with thread much. I admire those that work with thread so beautifully!
