Michael's 19th Birthday

Today is my son's birthday *AND* we have the day off today! Hmmm...he's supposed to be all grown up now, isn't he?

I turned off my alarm this morning and managed to sleep late...until 7:30! How disgusting that is that I can't sleep later than that....well, I'll work on it after the summer is over! LOL! I cleaned up the house some more today...made a pot of soup to leave on the stove for the girls when they get back from riding. Mrs. Grain had some friends over with their own horses and they were going riding and playing on horseback today. When they left, I saw about 8 horse back riders. I'm assuming they will be gone for awhile so Michael and I are going to head to town for a birthday trip. I'm going to get ingredients to make him whatever birthday treat he wants.

Here's some pictures of some more of Michael's leather. He's seems to be keeping busy with orders. I don't always get to see everything he makes but I managed to snag these pictures.

Michael's Projects

Wallet

Money Clip for his sister

Check book cover

Belt he made for his sister

Key Chain

So tonight I will share some of Michael's leatherwork he's completed.

I haven't got a picture of it yet but he came into the house today with a bible cover that we all looked at and said..... WOW....

Michael was able to get a great deal on a large lot of leather working tools. Our boss had met a lady that came into her shop whose husband was a leather worker before he passed away. She was considering selling his supplies. Our boss helped negotiate a deal with her and Michael was able to buy a huge lot of stuff! He was a very happy camper and even a little overwhelmed I think! Well, he can definately
open up shop now!

Here are a few of Alison's cards she makes and sells.

You can see a little of my handywork here...

What a absolutely gorgeous day today was....

What a nice day today was...Jeff was off today and we took it easy most of the day. Alison took went riding on Magic....

Piddled around most of the day and got a few things done but nothing stressful. Jeff added wire to the rest of the fence in our yard so now Gracie has the whole yard to roam around in. She ventured out into her new area a little bit. Now she has more grass to graze on. She tried to follow me out the gate when I left tonight and Jeff said after I left she ran around the yard for 5 minutes. She ran to look out the gate and then ran to the other gate. Are you sure she was looking for me or did the car starting scare her? Jeff said he's pretty sure she was looking for me. I'm going to have to take this deer with me wherever I move now. This adds a degree of difficulty to things now doesn't it? I love her so much though.

I even crocheted a little bit today. Alison makes cards that she sells in a shop in town. I decided to see if I could crochet some stuff for her to use on her cards. I'll post some pictures of the cards when she gets them made.

I took pictures of these potholders that I made a few weeks ago....

Here are a couple of new things my son has made recently...great job again!

My amazing son

I'm so sleepy tonight I can barely stay awake to type this post so instead of the blog post I had planned to tell about my day today I'm posting a draft I had typed and saved but had never posted. I will say real quick that I was happy to see that the chicken was fine this morning when I let them out! Thank God!

My son amazes me....I barely got this picture of this purse he finished. He caught me taking the picture and kept trying to grab it.

Front

Back

This is his first purse. There is an error on it where he messed up. I noticed it right away but Alison and her friend couldn't find it so I won't point it out. It is amazing either way...

Now this is another project in the works. He is making a suit of armor out of leather. I'm not sure why but he likes it. This is one arm of it. He's designing each piece. That alone I wouldn't be able to do. He has always been very good at constructing things.

I finished going to the posts on my blog and adding all the tags. I may have missed a few but there should be alot more crochet projects tagged on my sidebar now!

Today's blog post is dedicated to my son

Sometimes I am able to get pictures of it stuff but its not easy to do! He doesn't let me! Well, I snagged these pictures he had taken himself on my camera! HA! He's been busy with his leatherwork. He has some of his items in our boss's store in town. I believe he has sold at least one items and is having a lot of interest in the gauntlets he makes but he needs to make some bigger sizes. Why he doesn't do it, I don't know. He gave them this bag of stuff he's made today with these items in there. The flashlight cover Mr. Grain is buying before it ever hits the store and he wanted the two knife sheaths as well. Michael told him he would make him one that he can pick out the pattern he wants on it.

Next....Alison got to ride bareback today for the first time! Something she's been itching to do but hasn't been able to do.

Mrs. Grain and the neighbor were riding today and Alison only had 20 minutes before she had to get ready for dance so Mrs. Grain said...Oh, just get a bridle and hop on him bareback then! Mrs. Grain showed her how to get Magic to pivot his front body and then to pivot his hind quarters. They might be trailering the horses and going for a longer ride on Sunday or Monday.

Oh mercy me! I have to get up at 5 am in the morning! I have to drive jeff so he can pick up his service van tomorrow --- I really hate getting up that early so I'm going to bed!!

Michael's Deer & The Prairie Star

I started on the 4th and 5th colors of my Prairie Star and I don't like it. I went to my stash to see if I had something better to use but there is just nothing. I wanted to use a hunter green but I don't have enough of that color in my stash so I just continued with it. Maybe it will look better after I add the next color. I am really enjoying making this afghan though.
First picture is without the flash...

Second picture is with the flash... I still can't get the colors to look right in the pictures...

Michael's taxidermied deer is now on our wall and the pins are removed. He said that he still needs to paint the nose and he's going to gloss the eyes. It still looks great!

Michael's Projects - Wallet & Money Clip

Michael has had these finished for some time now but I'm just now getting a picture of them. He made these for my sister and I have not gotten them mailed to her yet. If my sister reads this, sorry -- it's my fault it's taking so long because I haven't mailed them!

So proud of my son!!

My son did this today! I think he did an amazing job!

He is still drying right now...all the pins and stuff will come out once he's dry. I'll post more pictures once he's dry and mounted on our wall! Ever since last hunting season, he has had this deer waiting to get with the Baptist pastor to show him how to mount it. He spent the whole day over there today and came home with this tonight. Pastor said he did 98% of this without any his help. I think it looks great. Michael says he can do the next one by himself. Michael has been so blessed with his creative and artistic ability!

Playing Catch Up

Well, today I don't have to go anywhere today! I spent some time this morning adding some new blogs to my blog list and I took off one blog that hadn't been updated in a year. It takes me awhile to get my blog list updated with new blogs because when I see a blog I like, I click my handy "blog this" button and save it as a draft. Later, when I think about it, I go through the drafts and save them to my blog list. If any of my readers have a blog, please send me your link and I'll add you to my blog list!

I found this picture saved in my drafts... apparently I intended to share this awhile back and never did. This was something Michael carved with a utility knife...

Another interested link I found saved in my drafts...
Make Your Own Yarn Winder for Center Pull Balls
Personally, I don't know why you wouldn't just buy a yarn winder but it's still cool if you could make one! I have a yarn winder and it is well worth the money! I love it!

Well, since I have some time on my hands and access to the internet, I thought I'd post some pictures of some of Michael's recent leather work projects. He is having a difficult time keeping himself stocked with enough leather to keep himself busy. He whips this stuff out very quickly!

Michael made this knife for his sister.

Bev made the knife sheath for her. It's rabbit fur...isn't that cute? She's worn it a few times already.

Yesterday, we decided to make a trip to San Antonio. We treated ourselves to a meal out at our favorite restaurant, The Alamo Cafe, and then hit some thrift stores looking for jeans for Alison. She was in desperate need of jeans. She had 3 pair. She gets so dirty at the stables and I couldn't keep up with keeping them clean and she was having to wear dirty jeans. We found her about 6 pair of jeans after trying on about 50! We always have to try on a zillion of them at the thrift stores. All the different brands run so different in their sizes. We wanted to go to Hobby Lobby and then realized they are closed on Sundays so we went to Michael's craft store instead. I was looking for some plastic canvas hexagons for a Christmas craft Alison and I are going to do.

I've been shuffling and tripping over boxes for the past few days. Jeff went up to the storage to try to find our winter boxes. I've been working on getting some summer clothes packed up and winter clothes put in the RV. We are still missing several boxes though that Jeff hasn't been able to find yet. The storage is so packed full. It's not easy to find anything in there. We're going to have to go up there and try again.

I babysat a 7 month old baby this morning for a few hours. I'll be babysitting on Wednesday and maybe a few days next week. Mom needs to go up to the school because her other child is having some problems at school. Just helping her out by staying with the baby so she can go up there.
