I've watching the news coverage since before the storm hit the Gulf Coast. I'm am just sick seeing the horrendous situation over there. You know it's much worse than they can possibly show on TV. I wish I could just go buy out Wal-marts water supply, load up the truck and go give it to those people that have been sitting on I-10 for days waiting for help. My husband would really do it if we thought they would let us in. My heart goes out to all those desperate people that don't know where to turn.

Ummmm...Squares, again...

I was hooked on doing my squares only in Caron Simply Soft. I needed to branch out and use some different colors in plain old worsted weight. I forced myself....I'm getting to where I only want to use Caron Simply Soft. That yarn is so great!

Lone Star Square Posted by Picasa

This is supposed to be this pattern: Lone Star Square, but I must not have done the star right because mine doesn't look like a star! Sorry, I've done too many squares to frog it! This one will work for me! LOL!

Square Posted by Picasa

This is the pattern I started out following: New Portland Square Pattern When I got to round 3, I just couldn't see where the instructions were made sense to make it look like the picture. I don't know if its me or what but this is the same site I started making one of yesterday's squares from that I ended up having to do my own thing on, too. I probably won't keep this pattern to follow again.

Four Generation Granny Square Posted by Picasa

This is a really neat pattern. It's actually 4 different squares stacked on top of each other. It was real easy to make but I got distracted and didn't end do the last round or two like the pattern said. I just did it like a plain ol' granny. Also, I added the dark trim around the 3rd square.

Our weekend....

I haven't gotten much crocheting done today or this weekend. I was busy washing clothes I had gotten behind on. Alison had her best friend over to spend the night both Friday and Saturday night and we were running around trying to find a tool box for Jeff's truck on Saturday. We roasted marshmallows in the back yard on Friday night and the kids put up a tent and pop-up type house thingy they have. They were playing school with a giant chalkboard I had found this week at a thrift store. It was WAY bigger than I realized and I don't know where I'm going to put the thing! They really had a good time playing school with it though. What fun!! The house was in quite a mess from the weekend so we straightened up today and both kids cleaned their rooms. We are ready for a new school week beginning tomorrow!

Here are pictures of the 4 squares I got done since Friday.....

1st strip of squares assembled for king sized afghan project!

1st strip of King Sized Afghan Posted by Picasa

Well, here is my 1st completed strip of my King Sized Afghan! It's hard to see the detail much in this picture but, of course, you can see closeups of the squares in other posts. I've measured it to my cover my comforter. Each strip will consist of twelve 6" squares with approximately 1" of tan border around each square. I am planning on putting a strip of fans about 3 inches wide in tan between each row of squares vertically. So it will be row of squares, strip of tan fans, row of squares, strip of fans, etc... This will help me with the quantity of squares I still need to make. I know it seems like I have a lot of squares but I still need a lot more! I need to do an estimate of how many strips it looks like I'm going to need after I get my first strip of fans done. I'm pretty happy with the product so far. I spent a lot of time tonight doing swatches of different stitches trying to decide on what stitch to use for my strips. I finally made up my mind on a fan stitch and got about 6" inches of strip done. This is going to be ONE HUGE AFGHAN!!! My strip was so long I couldn't get a picture of the whole thing in my living room without having my daughter hold it up for me.

I bought my comforter last week that I'm using to go under this. It is a tan about the same color as my border so any spaces in the afghan will show the tan comforter that matches my border. It's an oversized king sized comforter and my afghan is going to be the same size.

Hopefully this will be an afghan that my kids will feel is worthy to be passed down the generations.

This pattern really is very quick and easy. You can really have fun with this square by trying out different color variations!

I decided to make this square again in a different color scheme. I didn't mean for it to look so "Christmas-y"!

I thought this looked a bit like a snowflake so I decided to make the "flower" white instead of red. It looks pretty both ways!

Star of Bethlehem Granny Square by Diane Yupatoff Posted by Picasa

Well, unfortunately I can't seem to get the page where I found this pattern to work today. This is the same site I got the "Puff Stitch Granny Square" pattern from and that link is not working today either. If you want these patterns, I'd advise you to print these out if you ever catch the site when it is back up. I've found that this site is not easy to find again when I was trying to find the links to post! I already had these printed off.

I have a stack of patterns I had picked out from free online patterns I am currently working on making. Pictures and pattern links coming on soon!!

I'll be away from the computer for a day or two but not away from crocheting! So when I post again I'll probably have a slew of squares to post - He, he!

If you thought I've been posting lots of pictures of squares lately,...here's why!!!

As you know, I've mostly been posting pictures of squares lately. The reason is because I am trying to get an afghan done for our "new to us" king sized bed. I'm planning on buying a solid colored comforter to put under it. I will probably even make matching pillow shams. I am invisioning putting 1 x 4 board and padding it with batting and then covering it with the same colored solid material. Then I will put more squares over that. I will hang that over my window. I will then hang a Crocheted Window Valance of the solid color from a tension rod hanging out from underneath that. Does that make sense??

King Sized Afghan Squares Posted by Picasa

I decided to lay-out all of my squares that I have done so far to see how much farther I have to go. This is a picture of my squares. However, I have 34 more squares that I have made for The Blue Squares, Too Swap at Crochetville. I will get 34 different squares back made by 34 differnt people in the swap. Pretty cool, eh?

King Sized Afghan including swap squares Posted by Picasa

This is a picture of how many squares I will have once I get my squares back from the swap! Now that is a lot of crocheting! Squares work up really fast for me though. The joining of the squares is what is scaring me. I'm not quite sure how to figure out how many stitches to border them with on each side to make them all the same. If anyone can help me out with this, please speak up!! :-)

I am going to be VERY pround of this when I finish it!!!!

I really like this square pattern. You can make such pretty variations of the look of this square by changing your color scheme. I had posted a picture of one I did in a varigated yarn a few days ago (8/18/05). I really didn't think the varigated yarn did this square justice.

I really thought this was an original and different looking pattern when I saw this one. It's a little bit different look. I'll probably do this one again with different colors and using my Simply Soft yarn. This one is done in regular worsted weight yarn.

Obviously, I didn't put the star on this square like they hav it in the original pattern.

3 squares Posted by Picasa

I made these 3 squares out of some left over motifs I had from a vest I was making. The center tan part is the original motif and I just addeds the extra rounds on to make them 6 inches.
