Happy New Year All!

This year my new year's resolution is to gain more weight! I figure since I never keep my new year's resolution, maybe if I resolve to gain weight...I'll actually lose some! LOL!

According to an article I read, these are supposedly the top ten new year's resolutions:

1) Spend More Time with Family & Friends
2) Fit in Fitness
3) Tame the Bulge
4) Quit Smoking
5) Enjoy Life More
6) Quit Drinking
7) Get Out of Debt
8) Learn Something New
9) Help Others
10) Get Organized

A few things I'd like to do this year off the top of my head are:

Learn to quilt
Finish my King Sized Afghan
Go to bed earlier
Lose weight
Sell our house
Buy a fifth wheel
Take some fun camping trips
Make sure my kids learn a lot!
Get more motivated

Haven't been crocheting much!

I'm sorry to say I haven't been crocheting much, but my creative juices are still flowing! My mind has been so full of planning and ideas, I haven't had much time to crochet. I got an idea for the Circle Blue Jean Quilt that I can incorporate crochet into. I thought it would be pretty to use crochet squares instead of fabric scraps in this quilt for a different look. I doubt I will be getting to this soon b/c even though I have a lot planned in my mind, I am going to make myself get back to my King Sized Afghan before I get too carried away with other stuff.
I AM working on a sweater for Alison, but it has been slow going. I am making it to match a pair of pants that are a funny light green color. She doesn't have any shirts to match with them...but of course, I just happen to have some yarn that goes perfectly! lol! I crocheted some trim to the bottom of the pants. It should be a cute little outfit when I get if finished.
Another project I am putting on my list to do is this TUBE QUILT. I am going to learn to quilt....I've bought some of the stuff I need to do it with already. I figure these easier projects will give me some practice at cutting, etc. before I move onto something more elaborate.

Learning to sew

I plan to learn to sew very soon...I have no choice since my husband bought me the sewing cabinet for my birthday! I found this pattern online that I am very excited to try!

Circle Blue Jean Quilt

My husband's grandma gave us a blanket made from jeans from his childhood several years ago and that is my favorite blanket. It is heavy and really great for a pic-nic type blanket because it doesn't blow away in the wind! It's pretty small so its easy to wash.

Alison always hates getting rid of her favorite shirts and jeans when she outgrows them. I will start to save her outgrown clothes for this project. She will completely love this!

What we've been up to

We drove to Louiana this past weekend to have Christmas with my husband's family. Jeff's grandma rents a cabin every year at Lake D'Arbonne State Park in Louisiana every year. The cabins here are very nice and affordable. You can sleep quite a few people because the rooms have two sets of bunkbeds.

It's a pretty long drive for us. We got off to a late start, as usual, and had a flat on the way so we didn't get in until about 2:30 am!

Now that we are back, I've been working on getting unpacked, clothes washed, and trying to make room in my house for Christmas gathering. My family Christmas is at our house this year. My house isn't really set up for lots of people so I'm trying to do some arranging to make things as do-able as possible. I finished wrapping the presents. Still have to go to the grocery store.

My daughter had a birthday this week as well so we spent the day taking her and some of her friends to a local play place. We drove around looking at lights that night. The kids are counting down the days until Christmas!!

Paul Harvey and Prayer

Paul Harvey and Prayer

Paul Harvey says:

I don't believe in Santa Claus, but I'm not going to sue
somebody for singing a Ho-Ho-Ho song in December. I
don't agree with Darwin, but I didn't go out and hire a
lawyer when my high school teacher taught his theory
of evolution.

Life, liberty or your pursuit of happiness will not be
endangered because someone says a 30-second prayer
before a football game.

So what's the big deal? It's not like somebody is up there
reading the entire book of Acts. They're just talking to a
God they believe in and asking him to grant safety to the
players on the field and the fans going home from the game.

"But it's a Christian prayer," some will argue.

Yes, and this is the United States of America, a country
founded on Christian principles. According to our very
own phone book, Christian churches outnumber all others
better than 200-to-1. So what would you expect-somebody
chanting Hare Krishna?

If I went to a football game in Jerusalem,
I would expect to hear a Jewish prayer.

If I went to a soccer game in Baghdad,
I would expect to hear a Muslim prayer.

If I went to a ping pong match in China,
I would expect to hear someone pray to Buddha.

And I wouldn't be offended.
It wouldn't bother me one bit.
When in Rome

"But what about the atheists?" is another argument.

What about them?
Nobody is asking them to be baptized. We're not going to
pass the collection plate. Just humor us for 30 seconds. If
that's asking too much, bring a Walkman or a pair of ear
plugs. Go to the bathroom. Visit the concession stand.
Call your lawyer!

Unfortunately, one or two will make that call. One or
two will tell thousands what they can and cannot do.
I don't think a short prayer at a football game is
going to shake the world's foundations.

Christians are just sick and tired of turning the other
cheek while our courts strip us of all our rights. Our
parents and grandparents taught us to pray before
eating; to pray before we go to sleep.

Our Bible tells us to pray without ceasing. Now a
handful of people and their lawyers are telling us
to cease praying.

God, help us.
And if that last sentence offends you,
Well ... just sue me.

The silent majority has been silent too long. It's time we
let that one or two who scream loud enough to be heard
.... that the vast majority don't care what they want. It
is time the majority rules! It's time we tell them, you don't
have to pray; you don't have to say the pledge of allegiance;
you don't have to believe in God or attend services that
honor Him. That is your right, and we will honor your
right. But by golly, you are no longer going to take our
rights away. We are fighting back
and we WILL WIN!

God bless us one and all ... especially those who denounce
Him. God bless America, despite all her faults. She is still
the greatest nation of all.

God bless our service men who are fighting to protect
our right to pray and worship God.

May 2005 be the year the silent majority is heard
and we put God back as the foundation of our
families and institutions.

Keep looking up.

I don't get it....

My right sidebar is still gone! Does it show up for anyone else? I figured my template must have somehow got messed up but I copied my template and posted it in a test blog and it shows up on the test blog! This really baffles me because that must mean there's nothing wrong with my template, right? This is very annoying...I don't really have time for this right now. It looks like I'm going to have to go out in search of the answer....blah.

Finished this little dress for my little dog, Brindy. I must say, she doesn't care much for fittings! I started another little sweater for her that I plan to add a little more "foofiness" and girliness to.

A Christmas Reminder I needed to hear

CHRISTMAS...1st CORINTHIANS 13 STYLE

If I decorate my house perfectly with plaid bows,
Strands of twinkling lights and shiny balls,
But do not show love to my family,
I'm just another decorator.

If I slave away in the kitchen,
Baking dozens of Christmas cookies,
Preparing gourmet meals and arranging a
Beautifully adorned table at mealtime,
But do not show love to my family,
I'm just another cook.

If I work at the soup kitchen,
Carol in the nursing home and give all
That I have to charity, but do not show
Love to my family, it profits me nothing.

If I trim the spruce with shimmering angels
And crocheted snowflakes, attend a myriad of
Holiday parties and sing in the choir's cantata
But do not focus on Christ, I have missed the point.

Love stops the cooking to hug the child.

Love is kind, though harried and tired.

Love doesn't envy another's home that has
coordinated Christmas china and table linens.

Love sets aside the decorating to kiss the husband.

Love doesn't yell at the kids to get out of the way.

Love doesn't give only to those who are able to give
in return but rejoices in giving to those who can't.

Love bears all things, believes all things,
Hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. Video games will break,
Pearl necklaces will be lost, golf clubs will rust.
But giving the gift of love will endure.

Author unkown.

Easy Ribbon Angel Ornament

Decided to make this ornament using some of the ribbon we had bought for our recycled card garland the other day. I had seen these years ago at a craft mall and decided they would be easy to make yourself. Takes less than 10 minutes if you have the supplies! All you need is wooden bead for head, some pretty wide wired ribbon, wire, a glue gun, and some pretty buttons to hide where you glued and wired it together!

They are really pretty on your tree. I had made some several years ago for my tree.

Michael's Keys

My son has been feverishly making these keys out of cardboard and duct tape for the past two days. They are playing a game with his a huge box house he put together...actually, I think its a jail. It's in our garage right now but will be moving out to the yard shortly! The weather was rainy so he had to move it inside. We picked up some large freezer boxes from a new ice cream store that just opened up down the street. Give kids a bunch of boxes and some duct tape and you'll have them entertained for weeks!!

Our crafty day

We finished our recycled Christmas card garland today. We made this by cutting the pictures from Christmas cards and decorating them with glitter glue. We simply hot glued the pictures along strips of wide ribbon. I taped these above all of my windows for decoration. Here is pictures of the finished product.

I wanted to get the christmas card project out of the way so we could start painting ornaments. We do this just about every year at Christmas. I still had a bunch of these plaster ornaments to paint left over from last year. We just do it for fun because we sure don't need anymore Christmas ornaments!! Lol! We've been making ornaments every year for years so my tree is just about to fall over! Anyway...so tonight this is what we were doing....

Completed Magnolia Pillow

Completed Magnolia Pillow Posted by Picasa

I finally got my magnolia pillow all finished. I bought a little tan pillow at a thrift store this weekend and used that instead of spending $5 on a pillow form. I didn't have to line it since I used the pillow. I think it turned out great! This is going to be a throw pillow to go with my King Sized Granny Square Bedspread. I need to get back to working on that!

We've been having a bit of internet problems

This is the first time I've been able to be online since Friday! My husband has been about to have fits trying to figure out what the problem is. I don't know if I'd be able to have internet if I didn't have him! I would never know what to do. After trying several things, he ended figuring out that our router was bad. Anyway, so here we are again!

We got our Christmas shopping done this weekend! Normally, I have that finished by Thanksgiving because I hate being out in the December crowds. It was easier this year though because we aren't buying presents for the adults in my husbands family...just the kids.

We got all the Christmas decorations up but still have to decorate the Christmas tree...waiting for my husband to get the lights on!
I always get crafty with the kids around this time of year...I have a whole bunch of Christmas cards we've gotten from people from over the years. I came up with this idea for decorating for the holidays with them. We've been cutting the pretty pictures out and using glittery glue on them.
Card Recycling Posted by Picasa Then we are simply hot gluing them to a strip of ribbon. We're going to put these little strips up over each of my windows.

Here's the first strip we finished.
