The whole family spent the day at the stables today
1 commentsJeff got up early and went down to the stables at 7:00 this morning to learn/help bridle and saddle the horses. The kids and I went down at my normal time when rides start at 9:00 am and we all spent the day there. We had a ride go out that got a little too large with 12 horses. We were lining the horses up in a different spot than we normally do to try to keep them out of the mud. That didn't work out too well because the horses were confused and they started getting out of line and a little kicking went on. The owner came out and we all held horses until we could get everyone on and get them going.
Jeff's going to be spending some time down there when he's not working on other jobs to try to learn the horses. She needs a back-up guide so he's going to spend some time there and see if he can work with the horses. Of course, Alison is happy anytime we are around the horses. She rode her favorite, Princess, today and she rode Cheyenne who is a horse she hasn't ridden before so, of course, I had to get a picture! Cheyenne is a bit stubborn at times. In the pen, she spends her time acting like a mad mama because she wants out to be with her baby. She was a show horse at one time and won her first time out.
The guide that lives on the property has his grand-kids visiting and they are doing things to the horses that are upsetting them while he was mowing and not paying attention....swinging things at them, throwing things at them. The horses were fussing in the pen and trying to get away from them. I finally had enough today and said something to them. I know full well that Beverly doesn't want them having those switches. I told Beverly what I had done and she told me if I saw them doing it again to call her. She ended up having to come down and stayed most of the day. I can tell that the horses were stressed and upset when those kids came around. There's different approaches people have with horses and Beverly's approach is very gentle. Those horses all love her and listen to her.
Alison had a project going while she wasn't riding horses....she was painting rocks. I'll be getting pictures of the finished products, obviously!
We have a dry-erase board that we put the ride schedule on. Michael decided the board needed to be re-drawn in permanent marker. He did an awesome job on it. I definately should have taken a picture of his finished board. He did such a good job, that Beverly ended up paying him, even though that's not why he did it. He's so talented with things like this. He has such a steady hand and writes and draws beautifully.
Anyway, it was a fun day. Jeff is planning on going to the stables early in the morning to help saddle again.
Tonight, the Astronomical Society is setting up telescopes in the. We're going to walk over there after dark tonight and look at the stars.
